Anubis offered a curt nod, and fixed his gaze on her once more. Again, he had found her increasingly difficult to read, which would be rather bothersome in the long run -- if there even was such thing as a long-run with Vira. She seemed quite distant, and didn’t seem as though she took to quickly to many wolves. Briefly, he wondered of her past life, and again dwelt on the fact that he hadn’t had it easy either. Of course, he couldn’t judge someone without truly knowing them. Though, what did he know about Vira, really? He hadn’t made an effort to ask her any personal questions, anticipating a heated response. Still, he couldn’t help but wonder, and the words left his mouth before he could even realize it was happening. “Where is it that you come from? Someone such as yourself must have some sort of fascinating story to tell. If it’s not too bold of me to ask, of course.” His words were calm, quite collected, even if they had left his brain out through his mouth rather suddenly. Though, Anubis was one for not having any sort of filter. He spoke what was on his mind and really didn’t give it much thought.
He watched as she discarded the rabbit carcass. His stomach wasn’t empty, for he had eaten earlier, right before he ran into Vira. He had been hunting a rabbit, but his leg had decided to mess up, causing him to lose his next kill. His eyes followed her mildly as she returned to her previous resting place. He shivered, looking up at the hole in the ceiling that was causing a rather large draft. He frowned a bit and stood, nosing his make-shift bed, sliding it back toward the wall. He sighed and padded over to her, sitting back on his haunches awaiting a response. The only reason he had moved was because she seemed as if she didn’t want to talk about anything. Still, he found it rather rude and degrading to speak to one from within the shadows of where his bed now rested. He wrapped his tail around his lower half and glanced at her leg. He made a mental note to try and find something to wrap it up in. No good to get dirt or other debris in the wound.
He reached up with his hind leg again to scratch at his torn ear, and retracted his foot rather lazily, stretching a bit, and moving into a laying position once more. For some reason, she seemed tense again and he cocked his head to the side a bit. ”Did I do something to anger you?” He was curious, and he surely didn’t want the whole situation to return to where it had been when he first stumbled upon her scent. Again, he didn’t like to fight faes, even if they could put up just as much of a fight as any well-bodied male. His human side, he supposed. He had been raised to never harm a woman, and it seemed as though that aspect of his personality, along with his horrible insomnia, had carried over into this life as well.

You have done nothing directly, Anubis. An attempt at a neutral and non-controversial reply manifested into accusationall dialogue, contradicting the original intent which Viradecthis had harbored. Her gaze turned inquisitive as she warily directed her attention to the male for his response while mentality she was preparing herself for an ordeal. In tandem she contemplated the many contradictions which Anubis represented in the way of his demeanor; as an entity she considered him to be two sided, varying by situation, company and necessity. On the other hand he was a uniquely complex creature which remained the only characteristic uniting him to other of his kind; anthro or otherwise. To some extent the bitch was praying for a conversion to his previously senile attitude which she knew she could better cope with. Yet with an injured leg and having no honest need for such hostility, Vira quickly thought better of the idea and gazed awkwardly at the ground. Her blanketed façade was draped with both anxiety and confession, alluding to her initial genuine intent as she shifted nervously. It was apparent by the brute’s demeanor and facial expression that he was getting aggravated at her constant disregard, though she was curious as to why he so desired to know her past or why he fretted over her opinion of him. To even take into consideration the possibility that he cared for her – in any way – was, in her opinion, conceited. He still deserved an answer, needing to give him credit for the questions he asked and the sincerity he showed.
With a very elaborate sigh Viradecthis returned her gaze to Anubis; now appearing deflated yet near calm. One could see the multiple thoughts and feelings swelling in both her head and her chest, literally on the brink of explosion should she refuse to keep her lips sewn any longer. Yet they remained tightly fastened, continuing to peacefully stare at the male as if her answers resided within his face. Alas it did not and the fae released yet another sigh. Head turned as she looked out of the opening of the cave, peering into the darkness before finally answering Anubis; at first averting her gaze before looking directly at the beast once more. You have done nothing, Anubis. I’m not angry with you or in any way personally upset by you or your actions. I had a life as a human, and while not the best it certainly wasn’t the worst. I lived in America and was going to college, had a mate… boyfriend, I’d been dating for nearly two years when I was bitten. The pause whispered of more to come but also posed as a forewarning to the more serious part. As such up and coming, her expression became darker and more guarded while continuing to glance around the cave walls.
I’ve inherited a lot of my dads traits, carried them to my new live I now live. As such I’m introverted, hate people and naturally question the loyalty and honesty of everyone. This just got worse with both of my parents being alcoholics, being molested by both my father and my cousin as well as being raped just two years before my transformation. Then there’s the commonalities we all endure – love and pain, guys cheating you on and girls being two-faced.
Femme paused to stare at the cavern floor, look up at its roof and out into the now dark surroundings before finally returning hazel orbs to Anubis. Another sigh fell past quivering lips, tongue revolving around jaws to calm herself from getting both angry and upset. So now, right after telling you all this, I’ll feel like a complete idiot for even remotely opening up and being dumb enough to tell you my past whenever I know you aren’t vaguely interested. We’ll probably go our separate ways in time, probably not on the best of terms because most of my… ‘relationships’ don’t end well. Although she was already regretting everything she said, part of her was happy to have released some of the bottled up mess that was her heart. Vira stared constantly at Anubis for some sort of response, scarcely seeking empathy or comfort.

He examined her body language, and determined that whatever she was going to say was making her uncomfortable. He found out why. He was honestly surprised that she had so quickly opened up only after one curious inquiry. He stayed silent as she spoke, listening intently and contemplating her words. Her past didn’t seem nice at all, and as she spoke of the abuse from her father and cousin, he mentally cringed. His tail twitched a bit, but he brushed off the feeling. That had always struck a nerve in him. Such behavior from someone that was supposed to nurture and take care of you was unacceptable. Though, he felt sorry for the things that happened in her past, he could not bring himself to pity anyone. He respected others enough not to pity them for things beyond their control. He would offer sympathy, but never pity. He remained silent as she continued to speak, and once she had finished, he looked down.
He partially understood her distance now. He was mistrusting as well, but always at least gave everything a chance. Still, he couldn’t help but wonder if she was thinking that he would do something to harm her, be it emotionally or physically. He knew that’s what he thought, and he wanted to assure her that he wouldn’t, but he bit his tongue for a few more moments, trying to gather his thoughts. What should he say? He racked his brain, trying to figure out something to tell her that would put her at ease. Still, he could notice that she seemed a bit relieved after she had told him everything. That nearly made him smile, but he refused to let it show. He sighed a bit, and said three words. ”That sounds horrible.” He couldn’t really relate, but his voice was sympathetic for her situation. He looked back to her and collected his thoughts.
”I’m not going to sit here and tell you how sorry I am that something like that happened to you, and I’m not going to force you to tell me anything else. I’m just glad that you gave me a bit of an insight into your personality. It is a bit confusing to have to stay guessing. I haven’t really ever been good at reading people though.” He offered a small smile of reassurance, and shook his pelt to rid himself of the uncomfortable feeling. Since she had opened up to him, he figured that he should do the same in return, despite that it went against his initial perception. He collected his thoughts once more and readied himself to speak.
”I came from a small village in the rainforests of Brazil. My parents died of Influenza. Our medicinal practices were . . . Primitive, to say the least. My mentor couldn’t save them. I had no siblings, and I practically raised myself. I trained in herbal medicine and natural remedies, and took over after my mentor died. I tried to incorporate modern medicine into the regimen, and the village people would not consent to it. They thought it to be unnatural, and rejected any sort of pill. The day I was bitten, I was out scavenging for herbs in the jungle. I had been exponentially happy because I had found a way to go to the States and pursue a medical career. But, there was a more pressing matter in the Village. Many of the elders and children had contracted Whooping Cough, and needed to be treated. But, I was bitten, and never found out what exactly happened to them.
That’s when I started to change. I became more aggressive, and would lash out at any random being for simply looking at me the wrong way. The full effect of the aggression of a male wolf was on me, and It drastically changed me. I became more wary of others, and kept no friends. I wandered aimlessly for a long time, and finally ended up hear almost a year ago. I keep to myself, and try to stay out of the public eye. It’s an existence that I would have never enjoyed before I was bitten. Though, I find comfort in the silence of my own company.” He finished with an audible sigh and closed his eyes for a moment before opening them again and fixing the mahogany orbs on her. He, too felt a sudden wash of relief sweep over him as he finished speaking. There was a bit of a lightness about him, and he was happy to actually have someone know of his past. If he hadn’t been bitten, he would be well on his way to a successful career in the states. But, all of that had went out the window once he was changed. He would trade anything to get it back, even if he had grown rather fond of being a wolf.
He settled himself down again, crossing his paws and looking at her steadily. His tail brushed over the ground gently, and he yawned a bit. He wondered if she would leave now that she had opened up to him and he had done the same. It made it quite uncomfortable. In this new life, he was not used to being close to someone, and it seemed as though she was reluctant to. Hell, even he was reluctant to trust someone so easily, but he found comfort in knowing that she would at least seem like she understood. His ears were flat against his skull and he narrowed his eyes, awaiting her response. If she had one, that is. He honestly didn’t know how one would respond to that. Nothing horribly bad had happened in his past life, other than the death of his parents and his lack of an education. Some nights he would lay awake and wonder why he had to be bitten as such an inopportune time. He couldn’t find the answer. He pushed the thoughts aside and focused on current events now. He wondered how she would handle all this information, and he was patient in awaiting her response. _________________________________

Injured leg extended away from the femora's body, stretching the muscles and sending odd sparks of pain up and down her tendon. Haunch and tail fidged simutaneously behind her in response to the sensations before tassel curled around her. All of this was done as avoiding the awkarard silence she percieved to be arriving soon after her confession was completed. It did in fact descend upon them and she sighed within its presence, looking around the cave once again before staring curiously at Anubis' tail; as if it were truely that intriguing. The brute was no doubt contemplating a smart retort or some fake, sympthatic response to try and make her believe he understood. Though this she thought for whatever reason it was not in fact true, for as the brujo replied Vira could not resist but to stare bewildered at him. Well state the obvious, hun. Think it sounded bad try enduring it. At times like these in her head, she made it sound like what she had endured honestly effected her. Aside from her paranoia about trust and cynism towards males, it didn't really bother her. She didn't hate males because of being raped and molested, and she didn't stereotype them all as pedophiles; just users and liars instead. And though she came off as harsh sometimes, she was typically only casually defensive towards strangers; Anubis was just... different.
Anubis went into a long speech as she expected he would, but it wasn't what she expected. To begin with he didn't try and comfort her or make any attempt at trying to understand. He actually spoke of being glad that she had opened up, as if she were some round piece of steel he didn't expect to break. Quite frankly she now felt like she should have lived up to those expectations and kept her mouth shut. Said thoughts quickly recoiled as the mascu continued and she gazed observantly at him with intrigue. Brazil? Healer? Parents died? Sort of seemed like Anubis had a touch and go history, though wasn't altogether evil; her's wasn't even that way. She understood why he was here as a rogue as much as he hopefully understood her situation. Neither of them were technically fit for society and for so long, Viradecthis had believed that she wasn't fit for company period. She never desired socialization accept on rare occasions when she was in a good mood. She took company in doses but seemed to be taking Anubis as an over-dose; and handling it quite well.
Well thank you for telling me about yourself, Anubis. Now we've both been enlightened. Sorry about your parents... I wished mine had died sometimes.
Last remark was grumbled as she stared calmly at the brute, smiling. Really it was only fair that he tell something about himself if she did; sort of a give and take type thing. They certainly were doing a lot of that right from the beginning. Had Anubis not of 'submitted', so to speak, when they had first greeted one another, they might not have been here right now. Granted, Vira probably would not have been bitten either yet they'd both no doubt be bitten and scratched. So do you just plan on staying here the rest of your life or going somewhere else? Obviously there's nothing for you here between the Loyalists and the Pack. By no means was Viradecthis insinuating or trying to figure out just how much she was worth to Anubis, yet after she had spoken it she realized how it may have come off. Maybe subconciously she had done it, her social human/wolf side grasping in the dark for something that wasn't their, but she quickly growled at herself in self-discipline.

Anubis chuckled. The smile remained on his face for quite a long moment before he sighed, finally letting his ears perk up. He swiveled them forward and fixed his eyes on her. The words she had spoken had been true enough. He had been interested in going back to Brazil, but as a wolf, there was nothing for him there. No family left, the village had probably gone by now. He had nothing to return to. No home to think of either. But, he simply shook his head and stretched a bit. ”No, I don’t plan on going anywhere any time soon. I rather like it here. I can keep myself interested.” Truth be told, he was liking it here more and more with each passing moment. He still expected Vira to simply stand and walk out of the cave, and Anubis never see her again. But, he only half-expected it. His tail quit moving as he suddenly thought of something. He moved his eyes from her and pushed himself onto his paws. He padded over to her.
He lay down beside her, his fur brushing hers slightly. He turned his head toward her, and nuzzled her neck fur before pulling back and meeting her gaze. ”I appreciate the fact that you listened. Really. Thanks.” He then curled his tail around his body gently, and rested his head on his paws. His eyes were narrowed, for he had become rather tired. And, if he was going to get any sleep, it would be now. Once the earliest hours of the morning began to dawn, he became restless, and couldn’t fall back asleep. But, he found now that he wasn’t really all that tired. He had been earlier, but he knew that his insomnia would be here all night. He sighed in frustration, and tried to recall the herbs they used to use to put someone to sleep. He couldn’t remember and finally gave up.
He flexed his claws and licked gently at his pads. The ice had rubbed them raw, and they felt as if they were on fire. He only hoped that he hadn’t gotten frostbite, though he doubted it. Still, it made them feel better to be tended to. He hadn’t really noticed them at all until now. _________________________________

As they both went silent the night grew darker, the wind colder and the shadows thickened in the gloom. Ebon pupils widened against Viradecthis’ face, deepening the hazel of her eyes as she looked out from the cave once more. She could not recall her past life anymore after reliving it with Anubis. It was as if telling the secret had wiped her memory, released her from something she didn’t know held her captive. She found it to be quite relieving, but part of her still wanted to relive the relationships, the intimate moments and the freedom. In this new life she found herself in the confines of fear and hatred towards anyone and anything. It hardened her and prevented her from leaving. Yet after telling Anubis about her life it was as if a layer of her armor had been shed; not altogether deteriorated, but in the process of, and now she found herself in the company of none other than a male. Her attention returned to said beast as he spoke, a soft smile gracing her lips. Aye, how would you get to Brazil anyways, buy a plain ticket? Don’t think that would go over well.
Fae continued to smile plainly at him, both partly agape as she calmly observed him. Head suddenly cocked and mouth closed as he stood up and approached, brows furrowing in an attempt at a confused expression; pulling it off quite accurately, for a wolf. She neither visibly nor physically tensed as he settled beside her but her heart increased its pace. The muscle pounded away in her ears and in her mind, pulsating in her toes and she feared that Anubis may hear it. Vira sniffed nervously at Anubis muzzle as he extended it to nuzzle her neck; not at all secure in what to do or how to react, thus preoccupying herself with an unnecessary and uncoordinated sniff. She then became dizzy with confusion as the male spoke and caught her off guard – again – so Vira inhaled deeply and calmed herself before looking directly at Anubis with squinted eyes.
It’s no problem, any time; thank you, too. But don’t think you can use it to your advantage and don’t get too comfortable, I do bite. Viradecthis spoke very matter-of-factly with a fake, haughty expression plastered to her façade. She could not hinder the smile that came to her face once more as her skull moved; once acting as if she were looking down at him, mockingly, and then lowering to its normal elevation. Auds pricked as the mascu began to lick his paws, watching skeptically at his less than fruitful attempts. How often did he take the time out to groom himself, never? Grumbling humorously, Vira gently nudged the brute’s nose aside and used her own massive jaws and tongue to pull the hardened snow and ice from his paws. She surprised herself in how gentle she was in the mechanism, assuming it to be a natural motherly instinct she was never aware of ‘til now. She paused though and looked comically at Anubis. Just remember, I bite. Then she resumed her ‘primping’ of the brute.

Anubis looked at her skeptically as she said she bit. He rolled his eyes a bit and went back to licking at his paws. He was quite surprised to find that she pushed his muzzle aside and began to take up the job herself. He simply stared at her for a long moment before snorting in amusement at her repeated phrase. ”If you say so. I’ll keep it in mind. Maybe it will serve me in the future.” He gave a slight laugh and shook his head a bit. He was silent for a while, looking at the bats hanging in the back of the cave. His fur brushed against her as he breathed, and his tail twitched back and forth on the ground. He couldn’t help thinking about how civil they were being, considering how they had met. It was less than friendly at the time, and he felt so out of place. His stoic and rude nature wasn’t present at the moment, and he actually cared whether or not he had upset her. After opening himself up, even for the short time he did, he felt as though he had no need to be such.
He looked to her, and his eyes softened a bit with exhaustion. A shiver wracked his body, and he snorted in frustration. He didn’t have to deal with this kind of cold in Brazil. It was always warm, and the pelt of his maned wolf body did nothing in the way of shielding him from the cold air that was now sweeping in from the outside of the cave. His ears twitched, slightly annoyed.
He yawned a shivered a bit more, wrapping his tail around his slender body for warmth. He licked at Vira’s muzzle in thanks before resting his head back on his paws. He breathed a sigh, and closed his eyes. ”I’ll need to hunt in the morning. Food is so few and far between in the winter time here.” He shook his head a bit, marveling at the fact that he had managed to keep himself fed all this time. He had been so used to the dense jungles of Brazil. Prey had been so plentiful there. He wasn’t used to the conditions here, and his body showed that. _________________________________

Viradecthis even surprised herself by taking the initiative and grooming the male; though perhaps he had made the first move by moving closer to her? She had attempted earlier yet he had then found the excuse to kill a rabbit and thus leave her side. Either way they were next to each other now and she was licking his paws which she barely did to herself. Vira didn't like the taste or feeling of fur on her tongue, upper jaw or the back of her throat. That's not to say she didn't groom herself and it certainly didn't effect her habits during battle. The fae just wasn't the type to volunteer herself to preen another creature like most other wolves, but now that she was doing it she understood why. Maybe it was just her, but the close proximity and Anubis affectionate gesture combined with her own actions seemed to intensify a kindling bond; Vira didn't know what the bond was other than friendship, but she was well aware now why pack wolves so often took to cleaning each other. Such was done to the Alphas for respect and keep the group together. Among mongrels like she and Anubis, it was just a kind offering.
Vira withdrewher delicate skull when the brute licked her muzzle. She licked her lips less than enthusiastically, licking and half couphing as if she had a hairball. Upper lip curled in a grimace as she licked the ground to get the fur from her mouth. Anubis words made her feel guilty about the rabbit she had eaten - which he had gotten for her - and how skinny the male already was. Cranium elevated to look calmly at him, nodding in understanding. Agreed. I shall wake up early and catch us something. Now it's probably best to sleep while we can.
Viradecthis was, in fact, a night owl but after doing something as tedious as grooming another wolf - not that she was complaining - it was hard not to get tired. Sensing Anubis chill Vira shifted and intentionally closed the minute gap between she and the male, folding her legs beneath her so that her belly and left side pressed against the brute. She could already feel his warmth even though he was no doubt cold and she brought her head to rest on his neck, licking her lips again though this time in a content manner as she slowly began to close her eyes. Body remained tense though, as if prepared for the brute to get uncomfortable or attack her.

Anubis nodded once to her as she spoke. He figured he would be up with the sun in the morning anyway. He could help her out at least. Maybe they could take something a bit bigger down? He wasn’t hungry at the moment, though he knew that by the morn his stomach would be growling like a wild animal. He had missed his kill earlier, his leg getting in the way, and he had kindly offered her a rabbit, which he hadn’t been all that bothered anyway. A nice deer would suffice, though he wondered exactly what the two of them could do. With his leg as bad as it was, he figured that he would end up simply hurting himself if he had to run for a long distance. Either way, they would get it done somehow, even if that meant that the prey animal might be a bit smaller in size. Though, with the season, that was a given anyway. ”I will accompany you. Maybe we can take down something slightly bigger than a simple rabbit.” He spoke softly, and felt another chill overcome him.
He felt her shift so that she was closer to him, and the heat of her body was already warming his cold fur. He was thankful for the gesture, and sighed a bit in contentment. He stiffened slightly when she rested her head on him, but he didn’t make a move to tell her not to. They had both had a pretty eventful day, and, honestly, he didn’t mind her position one bit. There was something rather endearing about the scene, though he thought nothing of it. He could understand why pack wolves were so tight knit. If there wasn’t enough to balance out the weak in the pack, then there would be no pack at all. Though, he preferred the life he was currently leading.
He relaxed a bit more, his eyes closing as if in sleep. He knew that exhaustion would eventually lull him into a dreamless sleep, as it usually did. He was content, her fur giving him enough warmth to sleep. A sigh escaped his lips, expressing that contentment. His mind was already beginning to get cloudy with sleep, and he was only half aware of what was going on around him. It wasn’t long after that he slipped into a dreamless sleep that he had become so used to in the past years as a wolf. He wasn’t complaining. For, when he did dream, it was of nothing but bad memories. So, he’d much rather slip into oblivion and not have the images plague his sleeping mind.

Slowly but surely, Viradecthis could feel herself relaxing as the tension left her thick sinews and hackles rested back smoothly against the rest of her fur. Even though they were presently relaxed and obviously getting along great, Vira was still surprised at how placid and welcoming Anubis seemed to be of her. Granted her position was not exactly threatening and though perhaps in a somewhat ideal position to attack, she had plenty of opportunity to that long before now. So here these two wolves were now - having idle conversation and cuddled up like a couple of pups. Yet just earlier in the afternoon they had both been the aggressors, seconds away from lunging at each others throats and tasting blood. The femme shifted uncomfortably at the thought as she now found the idea unfathomable; not unlike her current situation. After all these years both as a human and a wolf of hating males, she was getting just as close and practically intimate with Anubis as she had been with her boyfriend; minus the 'affection' of course. This caused Vira to move with discomfort once more though it was all in the mind. She eventually settled however, slowly falling asleep with her body pressed against the males and her head resting just behind the back of his head. Unlike Anubis, it didn't take her long to fall asleep.
The sound of birds quickly woke Viradecthis for she was a light sleeper; an invonveniance with ears like a wolf. The fae smiled at her own amusing irony, lifting her head from Anubis neck and yawning gently. Hazel eyes cast her gaze to his slender body to observe him sleeping. Observing her own body she observed a white blanket of snow floating on her right and back side where it had blown in from the mouth of the cave. Skull rotated to look outside, noticying that it was still drizzling slightly. This haze would be good for hunting and she quickly stood up and stretched, whining loudly before biting gently at Anubis scruff to wake him.
